Basil
Ocimum basilicum
Basil is the crop that shows what hydroponics is actually for. Cut basil starts dying the moment it leaves the plant; basil sold living, with its root ball in water, keeps going on a kitchen windowsill for weeks.
We grow it warmer and brighter than the lettuce, on its own bench, which keeps the oils strong and the leaf from going leggy.
